So I stumble across one of those political quizzes where you answer a handful of questions and then a simple graphic is spit back at you showing where you stand in the big scheme of things. Before I knew it I had followed links to a handful of these sites. (I do think the way questions are worded not only often serve to lead the user in a certain direction, but also reveal the intent of the person/group offering the quiz – but whatever)
Taken with a grain of salt, here’s the sites and my results:
The World’s Smallest Political Quiz. This one’s just a short dumb one with a few agree/disagree kind of questions. My results:

From there I hit The Political Quiz Show. It’s quite dated (1994), but still I plodded on. My results there:

I hit the link at the bottom of that quiz and found myself at Politopia. This time I got scored as:

Lastly, I checked out The Enhanced Political Quiz…in 2D. This was pretty similar to the first one, but more with more choices and options. I got similar results:

But what I really liked here was their description or summary of those results:
You desire substantially less government control of both personal and economic activity than is presently the case in the U.S. According to some definitions, this makes you a libertarian. According to other definitions, including the Libertarian Party’s membership oath, the word “libertarian” is restricted to those who want considerably smaller government than you desire. Maybe some other term is needed for you, such as freedom lover…
The Republican Party fields a small number of candidates with your views, and the Democrats fewer yet. The Libertarian Party runs the most candidates with your views, though the party as a whole is more radical (in the small government sense) than you.
I really like that and I think it’s a good summary of what I do think and feel. I call myself Republican even though I hate as much about them as I like. I just seem to feel the things I agree with are more important than the things I disagree with. Which is the exact inverse of my take on the Democrats. So by logic I should identify with the Libertarian movement, but I never really have and I think it’s exactly what that summary says – It looks toward change that is a bit more radical than I think necessary.
Again, the summary nails it – I identify partially with a few Republicans and with fewer Democrats in terms of leadership and in the process end up finding it hard to identify with the very political party that thinks they’re bridging that gap.
Interesting stuff and it may have helped me sort out where I really fall a little – even for a handful of stupid online quizzes. Go figure.
