  • So I read this article and just HAD to comment on it.

The part that gets me is:

Gina Pierson, a music teacher in Columbia, Mo., buys her family’s staples at local grocery stores but makes regular trips to Wal-Mart to supplement the weekly shopping list. Like many families struggling to get by, Pierson and her husband, a public school teacher, are adjusting their approach to buying, cooking and eating food. Restaurant meals are now almost a luxury.

    What was that last line?

Restaurant meals are now almost a luxury.

    What!? What the fuck!?

Is it just me or haven’t restaurant meals always been a luxury? Did I miss the day things changed so that your rights in this country included a meal in a nice setting cooked and served by someone else?

The even worse part of that line?

    Using ‘almost’ as a qualifier.

Oh, this bitch and her family aren’t there yet, but things are sooooo bad (insert baby voice and pouty face) that restaurant meals have almost become a luxury. Like other ‘struggling families’ they actually have to cook food for themselves sometimes now.

    Fucking puh-leese.

    I hate people.

    Whaddaya think?

I would appreciate feedback. If it flat-out sucks, there’s no reason to spend time on it.

So I mentioned we’re going to Disney in the fall a few posts back, right?

Well, since then I’ve been looking into the million-and-one things involved in creating a ‘magical’ Disney experience…

    …you know what?

    It’s fucking expensive!

So we’ve joined the ranks of the masses in digging up info and discounts and deals and tips and tricks and came up with our own that I hadn’t seen posted anywhere – and with good reason, it’s a tad involved, but things happened to work out just right for us.

    So what’s our trick?

Become a Florida Resident and score all the sweet Florida Resident deals that Disney offers on tickets and rooms and stuff.

So how easy is it to become a Florida resident?

Turns out that it’s ridiculously easy if you happen to be in Florida.

You see, I also mentioned in passing a few posts back that Jamie had to go to Florida for a conference.

So with some of her free time on the last day, she hit up the Florida DMV. Turns out that for 3 dollars, a valid out-of-state license, a valid social security card and the ability to spout off a valid Florida address (doesn’t even have to be local to the DMV location – in this case she used her mother’s address – 450 miles away) and you can get a Florida ID card.

The very same state-issued ID card you have to show to take advantage of the Florida Resident discounts at Walt Disney World.

The beauty of it is that her shiny new Florida ID will cover her and the kids. I’m still stuck with poor tourist pricing on my tickets, but she can also book a room on property and lots of other neat things.

But that’s not all. Now she can also score the Florida Resident Seasonal Pass for herself and the kids. The pass has blackout dates during peak times (when we won’t be visiting), but for less than regular tickets with park hopper, we also open ourselves up to passholder discount opportunities both inside and outside the parks.

It might sound like a long way to go, but she was there anyway and it took little more than an hour of her time to get the ID and already it looks like it could save us 4 digits in total.

    Scored some sweet tix.

    Floor, Center, Row D, seats 1 & 2.

    Taft Seating

    Yeah, I rock.

Should be cool. I’m a big Eddie Izzard fan. Like most, I first got turned on with the Dressed To Kill special that ran on HBO back in 1999. Been following him ever since. If you don’t know his stand-up you might know him as Roman Nagel in Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen. Or before that as Tony P. in Mystery Men. Maybe you recognize him from My Super Ex-Girlfriend or Across the Universe. If none of those ring a bell, how about The Riches currently running on FX?

The dude is hilarious. A great sense of humor that’s silly, intelligent and british all at the same time – dare I say Python-esque…but conversational in delivery…seemingly improvisational…definitely stream-of-consciousness. At the very least, he’s an Executive Transvestite.

I’m pretty excited to see my first live show.

To make a date of it, we’ll probably stop for dinner at Morton’s. It’s only a couple of blocks from the Taft Theatre and we got a gift card for X-mas that should (after looking at the FAQ’s) cover around half the bill or so…sheesh.

    Good stuff! Yay for me!
