Played a team to today that was like looking in the mirror. A lot of the same strengths and weaknesses. We lost by a single point 32 – 31 in one of the most intense finishes I think I’ve seen in the 4 years we’ve been doing this football thing. Time ran out on us.
Offensively we scored 5 touchdowns and 1 extra point to their 5 TD’s and 2 extra points. We got behind by that point early in the second half and had three scroes after that. The coach went for two every time and we weren’t able to convert. I’m not sure I’d have had the balls to make the same calls, but there’s somthing admirable about going for the win. We’re either going to do this or we’re going down swinging. I’d have probably pussed out towards the end and played for the tie. Hindsight is 20/20 but maybe two one-point conversions would have gotten us there, but early in the 3rd quarter there’s no way to know you’re taking it in three more times.
Defensively we stopped each other twice, but our two stops were defensive stands holding them on 4th and short situations and their two stops were a fumble on our part that they recovered and time running out on us. So we kind of stopped ourselves both times. I think we were better overall, but had a few mistakes that were enough to kill us. They were more consistent, but not quite as good. Consistency won today. If 10 more seconds were on that clock at the end, it would have been 37-32.
Next week we have another tough one against an undefeated team. Would have been fun to have two 4-0′s go at it, but this one was so close that our 3-1 might as well be 4-0.
Also, today was the fundraiser drawing (each year there’s a big fundraiser raffle) and we won an HP Pavillion laptop. So that was cool, I guess.
