So we end the season two points shy of undefeated.
We won this morning’s game 29-19 after going up 23-0 early in the 2nd quarter.
I have to admit I was hoping the coach would get the kids pumped for the tournament by running up the score on a team that wasn’t doing crap against us, but after getting up by that 23 points, he pulled all the top kids and let the kids who don’t get as much time play. Our team has always been good like that, but this one time I think we needed to just lay it on and give the kids a little ego boots – some confidence – going into the tourney.
We seem to thrive on that momentum…and die on it as well. By the time the coach started cycling the starters back in in the 3rd quarter, our momentum was long gone and the only score we made after going up by 23 in a quarter and a half was a quick little pick six interception in the fourth.
All of the scores aren’t in yet, but out 7-1 is going to land us ranked at either 7th or 8th out of 38 teams. There were 5 undefeateds and one team with 7 wins and a tie. Unfortunately the tournament isn’t seeded because all the different grade levels of the same team play the same opponents at their respective grade level at the same field. So while our team is ranked high, the 4th grade teams is only 2-5 going into today’s game and is towards the bottom of the 4th grade standings, making it impossible for us to play the same opponent in a seeded situation. So the tournament brackets are filled randomly. We’ll find out this week who we play in round one. At this point a loss ends the season. Hopefully I’m still doing updates on November 14th because that means we made it to the championship.
