  • The Hillbilly Hot Rod is gone. It was an impulsive buy, a fun experiment and a useful little vehicle – but it was time to go.

My least favorite part of the car buying process is the ‘game’ of it all. The haggling, the mindfucks, the deception – I hate playing the fucking game. So I decided to try something different this time. We went to Carmax.

I can’t complain about a single aspect of the entire process. Took around an hour or so and we left with a check for about $1500 more than Kelley Blue Book suggested the HHR was worth as a trade-in. No games, no haggling, no trying to hide numbers in pages of paperwork – just an offer and a check. Seriously, I’ll never do a trade-in at a dealership or a private sale again. Carmax has a lifetime customer. I can’t recommend the process enough. I imagine buying would be just as pain free. Good mojo.

So now we’re back to one vehicle which might be a little awkward until we pick up something new. The best part is we already have financing wrapped up, so we really only have to focus on getting the right car at the right price. No trade-in haggling. No financing issues. Just give us the car for $X and we’ll write you a check.

Now to find the new car…

Saw this over at Draegs. It’s a five part thing with each part being a little over nine minutes, so set aside a little time to watch. The first three parts are absolutely fascinating and enlightening. The fourth gets a little preachy and the last shows hints of an agenda or at least the author’s personal opinions come through – less fact and a little too much opinion. All in all I’m glad I spent the time to watch it. For some good fun, watch the first few parts and think about what money is and how none of us really consider value and worth and currency – just that money buys things – and then go back and read my 8 Monkeys post. (smile)

Here’s part 1 (with links to parts 2-5 below):

Gee, who would’ve thought $10 flights weren’t a good business model?

Skybus Airlines has made its final flight.

Just over 10 months after its heralded takeoff at Port Columbus, the airline that became famous for its $10 fares said Friday evening that its final flight of the day would be its last.
