Mirror Prank

This is pretty good.

Bad Pick-Up Line

I’m married, so I don’t need the pick-up line, but I wonder if it’d get me laid:

“The weatherman isn’t calling for snow, but I see 6 inches coming your way tonight.”

(for the record, I picked “six” for the cadence of the sentence, a two syllable “seven” doesn’t flow as correctly and “eight” just sounds like drunken bragging – better to underpromise and overdeliver)

Mouse Path

This is pretty cool.

USPS Clown Commercial

This makes me chuckle everytime. It’s not that special of an idea on paper, but everything about the commercial is done right and the actors play it perfectly and that makes something average in to something funny.

So Close…

If only the show on at 8pm was called “Slim Shady”

Sex With The Iron Shiek

This is full of all kinds of funny:

Had a hard time choosing a bonus funny because the Tiger Woods thing was great, but it would only make my man crush on Kenan Thompson seem even creepier and the Shy Ronnie short is pretty great (even if it’s a little obvious).

What Up With That? (Again)

I liked it the first time and liked it even more this time. Love the the idea of using Lindsey Buckingham as a running joke in the skit.

Still not sure why, but I really enjoy these. I think I kinda just enjoy Kenan Thompson. I remember thinking he was funny back when he was on Nickelodeon even though he generally played the straight man in the Kenan and Kel duo.

Bonus Funny (I usually think they try too hard on the digital clips and find them to be generally overrated, but I like this one – maybe it’s Kenan, huh?):

Scared Straight

Totally enjoyed this last night – especially when they do Do-Re-Mi right about 3:04.

Bonus hilariousness:

Halloween 2009

Vampires are in this year. My daughter was going with the classic vamp/goth thing. My son’s interpretation was rock star/clown vampire thingy.

Oddly enough, we didn’t buy a pumpkin this year and no one seemed to care. So no pumpkin picture. My kids are growing up too fast. This is probably my daughter’s last year trick-or-treating. She’s in 6th grade and turns 12 next week. Little man still has three or four years left to score the goods for the rest of us.

Speaking of which, apparently the cul-de-sac gets little traffic. This is our first Halloween here and it’s now 93 minutes into the 120 minute event and I’ve had just three groups (a total of 7 kids) stop. That sucks, I dig the kids coming around.

Magical Musical Thing

It’s funny how the mind works. I would not have remembered this product, let alone the commercial, on my own accord if I lived to be 106. But as soon as I saw the first few seconds of this commercial, it all flooded back to me and I not only vividly remembered these, but also knew the commercial almost word for word (note for note?). I’d have been like 5 or 6 back when this ad ran.

I find the fact that the mind works that way pretty fascinating.

Demolition City

Yeah, I wasted WAY too much time with this today.

Tournament Round 1A

So we’re still playing next week. Another easy win by 25 points (apparently that’s the spread against this team). We beat them 25-0 in week 7 and beat them 31-6 this morning.

Our round 2 game is next Saturday morning and should be interesting as we face the team that beat us in week 6. Should be a good rematch. Our boys know what to expect and redemption is always a motivator. Plus, this time we meet at a neutral site rather than us driving the hour and a half to their field – which doesn’t seem like much, but when you have to arrive at 9am, that means leaving by 7:30 which means getting up even earlier. Our boys end up being in a car on the road before they even have to be out of bed. Doesn’t seem like much, but I know the team feels it in that situation.

At any rate, we’re the only Beavercreek team in our age group (of three) to advance – the other two got bumped in round one – so it’d be nice to represent a little longer. If we get past next Saturday’s game we’re guaranteed a game against a team with a losing record on Sunday (not a guaranteed win, but you gotta feel good about that).

So yeah, Round 2 next Saturday morning and it’s gonna be a tough one.

Tournament Round 1

We’re playing another game tomorrow morning. The boys came together and played this one like a team and won it with help from everyone, not just a handful of key players making big plays. The final score was 12-7. Awesome game with our defense just as responsible for the win as the offense – a few key stops kept us in the lead at the end.

Speaking of that defense, this past week the coaches made some big changes in who plays where and if today was any indication, it’s an improvement. My little guy now holds the middle linebacker spot – he may be the slowest linebacker in the history of organized football, but the kid is getting it done and is more excited than ever about playing. I think he contributed more today than he ever did on the D-line. For some reason he’s able to bust through in a way that he never seemed to be able to do on the line. Good stuff and he was in on a couple of big tackles and almost single-handedly stopped the one extra point the other team scored…almost.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s Round 1A game. I hate to take anything for granted, but we’re facing the team we spanked 25-0 two weeks ago, so I’m optimistic about our chances of making it to Round 2.

Tournament Time

Yeah, it’s another football post. Fuck you for asking.

The brackets came out on Tuesday. We have an away game against another 6-2 team that we haven’t faced in two seasons. We’ve played the other team (blue) from their town, but never this team (white). In fact, the blue team were the ones who knocked us out of the tournament in round one last year and the team that we beat 25-0 in week seven. So barring some major meltdown, if we win on Saturday, then Sunday should be solid.

That leads us to Halloween weekend where on Saturday we’d either be facing another 6-2 team that we haven’t seen this year or the team that beat us in week 6. Not sure what the odds there are or which way I’d like to see it go if we made it that far. But assuming a win on Halloween, then our All Saints Day game would be against one of four teams all with a losing record – the best of the four being 3-4-1. So that feels pretty good too. Almost like if we win our tough Saturday games, we’re given an easy sacrifice for the follow-up on Sunday each week.

After that it’s pure speculation who we’d face on Nov 7 in the final four game, but I see that one of the undefeated 8-0 teams could come down that bracket and that they don’t play a round 1A game. That could be ugly. Win the game on the 7th and you’re in the championship game played at Welcome Stadium – which is kind of cool for the kids.

So that’s where we stand. Five wins gets to the big game.

Why We Don’t Need Socialized Medicine

Regardless of how much I agree or disagree with any of the ideas in this video, I found the idea of this guy taking someone else’s video and offering a point-by-point retort to be pretty entertaining:

Please don’t post telling me what’s wrong with this video – I don’t care. (smile)

The original video without the interruptions is right here.

So It Begins Again

Football season is back. Today the kids had their “Premier Game” which is just a nice name for a practice game that doesn’t count (think preseason NFL).

We found ourselves at the same field where the season ended last year. Sadly, our opponents strategy stayed mostly the same – play cheap and eventually get away with it – and the clock issues were still there, but the end result was much different. Actually, in all fairness, it wasn’t nearly as bad as last year’s game…but still. This time the kids redeemed themselves a little and squeaked out a 20-19 win in a nail-biter.

The Beavercreek Orange Bantam team seems to be more well rounded this year with several players who are threats and a defensive line that can make a stand like nobody’s business. (yes, my little guy is a part of that line) In fact, while he got a decent share of play time last year based mostly on his effort and willingness to try even if the results were less than great, this year he’s actually having to ask to be taken off the field to catch his breath and get a drink. He’s on the line for the main offense in a Guard position and only gets breaks when the less experienced 2nd offense comes on and he’s not on any discernable rotation on defense in that he’s always on the field in a DT position.

So it’s all a little more fun this year as more of the ideas are starting to ‘click’ with him and, being one of the bigger kids this year, we’re seeing him break through the line quite a bit. Now we just need to find him some speed and he’ll be a serious threat. Right now he’s good for tying up one or two guys on the line which helps open up holes for some of the quicker kids to get through and make tackles in the backfield. Kind of thankless, but important to the overall attack.

We’ll see how the season goes. I think this year’s team has the potential to be a lot better than last year’s (3-3-2).

I wanted to do just a one-liner pertaining to this video, but there are so many possible plays that I can’t even begin to narrow it down. I can’t believe this is really for real…and current.
