I think he’s dead on. In fact it’s scary how much he took directly from my head…almost word for word. I’d also add that the same generation also grew up in uncommonly prosperous economic times as well – their entire youth as a generation was about unrealistic expectations top to bottom.

So this year, they’re telling us that if we plan on standing out front and picking up our kids that we instead have to go to the gymnasium, wait for our child and sign them out. But if we pull along the side of the school and stay in our car the kids can just come out. Also if your kid is a walker and walks home, they can just leave.

How little sense does this make?

My kid is free to roam whereever he wants as long as I’m not present. As soon as I show up, there’s special areas and procedures. Weird. Not sure why he can walk to the side of the building and get in any old car or walk home and run into God-knows-what, but he can’t walk out and meet me if I’m also out of the car and just standing there.

But some old douchbag backed out of a parking spot and directly into my path as I was backing out of a spot opposite and slightly diagonal of him in the school parking lot today. Like I was so far out that I was hitting the brake to put it in drive and take off and he came scraping across the back half of the rear bumer on the passenger side on the Camaro with his rear passenger side quarter panel (stop and really think about that for a second) – better yet, here’s a crudely drawn diagram:

Basically I (the black car) was entirely out of my spot almost at a standstill, ready to put the car into drive and pull off towards the right on the diagram (the traffic pattern is one way left-to-right). Douchebag old man (the grey car) never saw me and backed right into the rear passenger side bumper and scraped across it – leaving a long streak of black Camaro paint on his rear quarter panel and leaving a bunch of shitty grey Honda paint on my rear bumper along with taking off huge chunks of my paint and leaving big pock marks all along it.

And then he got out and had the nerve to say I hit him so it was my fault. I didn’t bother trying to explain that I could sit at an intersection and pull directly into oncoming traffic and get hit, but it still wouldn’t be the fault of the person who hit me. Douchebag.

Our insurance people should be out in the next 24 to 48 hours to assess the damage. I don’t think I should have to pay shit on this one. Give me a new bumper douchebag old man!

Then I bitched some more in February of this year. Then again back in May.

It’s to the point where I’m just going to complain everytime I get a bill because they add a few dollars to it every time. This time the bill jumped $6.90 over the last one. Our history of Waste Management bills since moving into the house:

That’s a 38% increase since our first bill. Why is this acceptable?

I’ve worn a Pirate cap since I was a kid. This spring I bought myself a Pirates shirt for my birthday that I’ve been slumming around in all summer. I’m convinced my shirt is what made the difference.

I’m a bigger football fan than a baseball fan, but there’s something about a summer evening at the ballpark that I dare say is just as good (if not better) than winter at the stadium. I’ve always enjoyed following the long baseball season. We lived in Pittsburgh for 2 or 3 of the past 12 years (most 2004 and 2005) and we got to quite a few games during that time. PNC Park is so nice. I don’t get to see many Pittsburgh games and quite frankly I don’t always have the patience to sit through games on TV. Sometimes the mood strikes. I eagerly watched them face the Cubs on WGN just before the break. I’ve been mostly living vicariously through the MLB app on my phone. I check it several times every evening and proudly proclaim to my wife how many games out of 1st we are or what combination of wins and losses would put us in what position.

In a weird sort of way it’s more fun to be a Pirates fan than a Steelers fan. It’s easy to be a Steelers fan. They’re badass. You’re a Pirates fan because you want to be. I’ve been wearing those Pirates caps around the whole time. My current one is a few years old and pretty dirty. Might be time to score a new one. Then again, maybe not. Don’t want to look like a fair weather fan.

I dunno. Just some thoughts. Something romantic about summer and baseball and finally winning a few – especially when no one expected it.

Fucking Pirates, man!

The down side is that people think you’re some kind of car guy with something to prove. I like the car. I like the performance. I like the styling. However, my cock is more than adequate and I don’t need to show you how fast my car goes. Too many times someone with something kinda sporty (tons of Mustangs in my neck of the woods) pulls up next to you at a light and you can feel them looking. Then it turns green and they start hard. Not necessarily full blown, “Go!” but more of a test to see if you’ll bite. 9 times out of 10 I don’t. Sometimes I do because it’s fun. This past weekend I had a bunch of kids (they were young could’ve been 16, could’ve been 18, could’ve been 21 – no idea) pull up beside us in a Honda or Subaru or some shit with a big tall spoiler on the back. They rolled up slow and were totally looking at the car. He was inching and I knew he was trying to be all cool. When the light turned green I hit the gas a bit more than I normally would have and the kid just punched it, so I said, “Fuck it” and did the same. There wasn’t much room as traffic was ahead and I didn’t notice how fast we got going (couldn’t have been more than 70 – the whole thing lasted 8 seconds tops), but I’m sure he caught shit from his buddies in the car for being blown away by some middle aged dude in a backwards baseball cap and his wife and kids.

Yes, the kids were in the back, but we were on our way to buy fireworks so…two wrongs make a right – or something.

So yeah, it’s been an interesting month with the car. Still happy as shit with our decision.
