  • OK, so I’m not exactly a big political guy. I just don’t do politics. My wife is even less interested/informed than I am, yet for some reason last night we found ourselves glued to the TV watching Iowa Caucus coverage.

It really is an interesting election. There seems to be no hard frontrunner for either party and no one running that I really like. (ok, I dig McCain and think he got shafted in 2000 – but that’s admittedly a personality thing, not a vote for the issues)

So I got turned on to these online “candidate selector” thingies and tried this one. My results were as follows (with 100% being my theoretically perfect candidate):

    1. Theoretical Ideal Candidate (100%)
    2. Tom Tancredo (68%) (withdrawn, endorsed Romney)
    3. Alan Keyes (64%)
    4. Ron Paul (64%)
    5. Stephen Colbert (64%) (campaign halted)
    6. Duncan Hunter (61%)
    7. Kent McManigal (58%) (campaign suspended)
    8. Mitt Romney (55%)
    9. John McCain (53%)
    10. Chuck Hagel (51%) (not running)
    11. Jim Gilmore (51%) (withdrawn)
    12. Rudolph Giuliani (51%)
    13. Sam Brownback (47%) (withdrawn, endorsed McCain)
    14. Bill Richardson (44%)
    15. Newt Gingrich (44%) (says he will not run)
    16. Fred Thompson (43%)
    17. Mike Huckabee (41%)
    18. Barack Obama (40%)
    19. Tommy Thompson (40%) (withdrawn, endorsed Giuliani)
    20. Al Gore (37%) (not announced)
    21. Christopher Dodd (37%) (withdrawn)
    22. Hillary Clinton (37%)
    23. John Edwards (37%)
    24. Dennis Kucinich (36%)
    25. Joseph Biden (36%) (withdrawn)
    26. Wesley Clark (35%) (not running, endorsed Clinton)
    27. Michael Bloomberg (32%) (says he will not run)
    28. Mike Gravel (32%) (withdrawn)
    29. Alan Augustson (29%) (campaign suspended)
    30. Elaine Brown (17%)

So yeah, do I even need to elaborate on my feeling about the upcoming election?

    Sigh.

I went ahead and took the survey for myself. Turns out the best candidate for me would be that stupid gecko from the Geico conmercials. I guess I’m voting with the Green party this election. Of course the gecko probably wouldn’t be as bad as some of the other candidates. Now if Huey Lewis was running, I’d probably have a 100% match with him. ;)
