  • Verizon is running the 2-for-1 dealy-o on the Droid and I’m thinking of picking up a pair for the wife and myself and playing it off as an early B-Day gift. (when your ego is this big you buy yourself gifts)

Someone tell me why I shouldn’t. (or should)

Speaking of phones, we’re also considering finally just dropping our land line. Anyone have an opinion there as well?

Do it. The Droid is a really great phone, and I have no regrets.

There ARE a few caveats to be aware of (and for clarity, I’m talking about the Motorola Droid, not the HTC Droid Eris, mileage may vary)

      1. While the Droid supports voice dialing, it does so in a weak manner. No Bluetooth voice command support, and the voice dialer requires some on-screen interaction to use.

      2. The Dialer doesn’t provide speed-dials (ie “Press 2 to dial home”). There are 3rd-party apps that fill this gap, AND you can create shortcuts on the homescreen that directly dial numbers (my solution)

      3. The Droid requires a $29.99 data plan. They make this clear in the ads, but what might NOT be clear is that that’s per-phone, not per-family. So 2 Droids (or Palms, or Windows Mobile phones), 2 data plans…

      4. The Motorola Droid is awesome, but Verizon has 2 more phones in the pipes you might want to consider — the Google Nexus One will support Verizon “soon”, and Verizon will be directly selling the HTC Incredible. Personally I’m glad I didn’t wait, but I’ve already had the Droid for 2 months (and the day I switched AT&T pissed me off so much I walked into a store and signed up for Verizon on the spot, so waiting wasn’t happening :) )

Thanks Greg, exactly the kind of insight I was hoping for. Not sure any of that is a real deal breaker. Have to see what the woman thinks.
