  • Lots going on lately and the vibe has been pretty positive. I’m trying to refrain from being too positive for fear of reality crashing down around me.

Been getting lots of shit done around the house with lots more to go. Actually starting to embrace and enjoy it more.

Last weekend our dryer quit getting hot. We could’ve easily gotten it fixed with our home warranty, but we didn’t really care for the washer and dryer. They came with the house and while they were pretty old (my estimation was that they were originals from when the house was built), but they were a little bigger then the ones we had – ours were newer, smaller and basic units. We ended up giving those to a friend’s mother who really needed them (karma points, I guess) and figured we’d replace the old washers soon enough.

Well, two years later and we still hadn’t done it and the dryer finally gave. The choice was made to finally get some decent, efficient, kick-ass front loading units and just dump the old ones. The new washer and dryer came today and they kick ass. Definitely consider Samsung if in the market. The yellow EnergyGuide tag on the washer says that with a gas water heater (which we have) it should cost $8 a year to run the washer. I’m pretty sure the Kenmore tank the previously cleaned our clothes used that much energy for each load.

As a fun side note, when I unhooked the washer and finally pulled it out for the delivery guys to take, I noticed the manufacture tag on the back said “10/90″ – October 1990. Almost 21 years old. It was older than the house. We theorized the original owners brought it from wherever they were previous to buying the house and it’s been here every since. Kinda gross, really.

We colored Easter eggs. My son made a badass Mr. Potato Head-looking one. Easily my favorite of the two dozen we colored. You could tell the kids are finally reaching an age where coloring eggs, while something different and silly to do, isn’t the event that it used to be. Whatever, my wife actually works Easter morning this year so the kids aren’t getting candy and shit until the evening. Should be a neat year. We always go overboard for Easter (I think there’s older blog posts) – this year there are new phones and basketball hoops in the mix. Just an excuse to get the kids crap they’ve been wanting, I suppose.

The cat has been here a month. She’s settling in. Lots of personality quirks. Couldn’t have asked for a better roommate to find us and relentlessly insist to live with us. We never stumbled onto a phonetic sound that captured her attention (which might’ve lead us to a possible former name) so we call her KiKi – it’s basically the sound that KittyKitty turns into if you say it high and fast enough a couple thousand times. She’s a down-to-earth bitch. She fits in pretty well.

I think I had other shit to cover, but I lost it while typing the other stuff. I hate that. I also have pictures of all of the above, but they’re on the desktop and I’m pounding this out on the laptop, so no pics.

    The end.

ADDED – Oh yeah, I’ve been scoring old board games from my childhood on the cheap on ebay. I plan on making my kids play them with me on warm summer nights. We just scored a sweet fireplace and stuff for the deck and have grandiose plans for awesome summer evenings with fires, marshmallows, hot dogs, kids and their friends and I’m forcing 80′s board games into the plans, but no one knows it yet.
