  • Literally. Twice!

It’s funny how something as simple as my son playing football has changed the dynamic of our lives, time and schedule. It really has been quite a commitment that has affected all of us.

It has been fun so far though. The little guy really enjoys it and works hard to make his coaches, his teammates and us proud. He’s pretty much playing right tackle and looks to be on the main offensive squad in such capacity. He does get tossed in towards the end of games and scrimmages for some defensive plays (again on the line) and it’s a shame he’s not a real hitter because he seems to enjoy the defense a little more than the offense, but if you can’t tackle that well…

Today was a ‘premier’ game (which is just a nice way of saying practice game). We lost 20 to 0, but it wasn’t as ugly as it sounds. Neither team really moved the ball much and it was a defensive struggle. But the other team had one kid who ran like a MoFo. They’d do a bunch of going nowhere plays and then once they got stuck on a third-and-long pitch to him around the outside and he blow by our bigger defenders up front and either out-sprint or out-muscle our smaller defensive backs. That’s literally how they scored all thre touchdowns. Eliminate that little prodigy from the equation and it would’ve been a 0-0 defensive showdown. Still good fun though.

Tomorrow are team pictures, followed by another 5-day week of practice and our first regular season game next Saturday. It’s an away game, but the schedule still isn’t finalized so we’ll find out who and where this week. Then finally we go to a three-day practice week for the remainder of the season because school starts on the 26th.

I’m looking forward to the breather and maybe football will leave my dreams.
