- Lots of football practice. My son always starts strong and this year is no exception. Let’s hope he doesn’t fade as the season progresses like he has seemed to do in the past few years.
- My uncle and his family came to Dayton for the first time. He wanted to see the Air Force Museum and some other stuff. Spent some time hanging with him on Saturday evening. Good times. Kind of neat to hear similar stories that I’ve heard from my mother, but from a different perspective. They seemed to genuinely have a good time in town and found a few neat things to do that we didn’t even know about. Plus, I got to show the Camaro to a bonafide car guy.
- My sister and her family swung by for a long weekend too. That’s always fun. I have cool nieces.
- I got stung by a wasp. I tried to think back and the best guess I can give is that the last time I was stung was when I was 14. So roughly 24 years ago – give or take. Six or seven of the fuckers were building a nest at the back of the house near where the table is on the deck. I went to knock it down and they attacked – an agressive, coordinated attack in complete formation. I ran and squealed like a girl and one tagged me through my shirt on my shoulder. It didn’t hurt like I expected a sting to hurt, but two days later and it itches like hell and my whole upper arn is discolored like a bruise – yellowish hued. After that I was determined, but if you even stepped in that direction, they ran the same play and came at me. I had my sister pick up Raid at Walgreens and that ended that.
- We tried to do lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. There were 8 of us and when we told the hostess she basically went into panic mode. She said she’d have to talk to the manager and she’d get back to us. In the meantime, she seated two groups of 4, a couple and a mother and her two daughters. Then the manager came to the hostess and they talked about us in that totally obvious, but trying to be nonchalant way and still left us hanging a few more moments. We finally told them to forget it. I’ve never seen such utter incompetence. We took our group to Red Robin and they had us seated in less than two minutes. Luckily, pushing a couple of tables together wasn’t above their reasoning ability and they got our three-figure order. Our witress was awesome and she got a sweet mid-afternoon surprise in tip form.
- We roasted Marshmallows and made S’mores on Sunday night. Was fun, but my fire burned down too much by the time we got outside. Still worked, but a little more heat would have been nice.
- Saw on Facebook that the piece of steel from the North Tower had been erected this morning for the 9/11 Memorial so we made sure to drive past. Should be cool when it’s all finished.
- It always feels like I leave something out when I do these.
