So on last night show Dave was forced to suck it up and give a ‘real’ apology to the Palin family and the world for a joke. I understand why he had to, but it was crap that he did. I’m not sure if there’s video of the apology online or not.
At any rate, I though this article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette summed it up well:
Sarah Palin’s Made-for-TV Outrage

I saw the clip this morning and thought that he again did the right thing.
The hens have been clucking about this for a few days now, too.

I will say that Whoopi Goldberg seemed to really balance most of the discussions well, though. I’m happy that Palin’s response to this was also discussed which once again was laden with political overtones.
The whole thing was really unfortunate. I just don’t know how anyone can really take Palin seriously at this point. She wasn’t wrong for reacting in the short-term. She is way wrong for bringing this into her work.
I saw it, and I was disappointed. I just don’t understand how it went so far out of context that even on ABC’s “This Week” the pundits were calling him out.
And that’s what really gets me, Jeff. How did it get blown so far out of proportion. This is exactly what’s wrong with shit – and Letterman nailed it (kinda)…perception. Something gets said enough times and it becomes truth and fact.
Flat out – only someone with absolutely no understanding of jokes or sense of humor would think that he was referring to the younger daughter…but Palin made a stink and pretty soon it became truth.
And honestly, my morals must be in the gutter, because I don’t even flich at the subject matter (which is another point of supposed outrage on the topic).
The very fact that this ellicts discussion (and I’m guilty, I know) is a fucking joke in itself.
Like I said, it’s a total shame Dave had to roll over on this one, but I understand why he did…
…the same reason people with dreadlocks cut them to work for Cedar Fair. ;)
Sometimes you do have to give in to the man.
