  • One of the sad side effects of the seemingly inevitable eventual near-extinction (was that noncommittal enough?) of the landline phone is the loss of the novelty phone.

    I actually had a hamburger phone back in the day (long before Juno) and remember all of those commercials for Sports Illustrated where you’d get a football phone – which I also had at one point. (And on a side note – commercials for magazines!? That seems so silly now.)

    I never did have the $70 Erotica phone though. Although I’d almost consider getting our landline back if I could find one. This ad is apparently from 1984:

    And as a bonus, here’s the SI commerical. Most surprising to me is that it’s a 2-minute spot. Damn! 1990 doesn’t feel like 20 years ago and I don’t remember it being so cheesy. Sigh.
