I have this weird preoccupation with time. More specifically how things change over time. From being interested in how my old hometown evolves all the way down to watching all game shows from the 70′s and 80′s on GSN and wondering what those people are doing today (or in the case of eldery contestants, figuring they’re probably dead).
Hell, I even think it watching Funny Home Videos. You’ll see some silly pet video from 1991 where a dog does something fucked up and I’ll be thinking, “That dog’s dead by now.”
I’m currently finishing up a pretty big reworking of the coasterimage photo gallery and aside from the misty-eyed nostalgia of seeing my kids grow up before my eyes in photos (I’ve been doing this 8 years now!), I also notice other people on the rides and just can’t help seeing some 10 or 12 year old kid on a ride and thinking, “Christ! That kid probably went off to college this year.”
Sure it’s 8 years, but some of those photos feel like yesterday.
Time marches on…
Well, rest assured that the images of me in two of your pics (last time I checked, anyway) have gone nowhere as here I am today!!
But it is funny you mention that as my girlfriend does the same thing if we’re watching on older movie and see a dog, and she’ll say, “Do you think he’s alive today?”
What I find MORE weird is thinking that at any given moment in time some famous person is presumably doing something!! Like as I type this, somewhere some place even if I can’t see it, Megan Fox is actually alive, doing something, and not just some pretend person who only exists in the movie Transformers!? That’s what I find weird…of course, equally weird is that probably at any given moment in time someone somewhere is having sex, and if you believe in this kind of thing, you’re to believe that if you make it to Heaven, you’ll continue to “exist” for eternity!! I mean, like, you’ll never end to being!? Deep thoughts, man, deep thoughts…. ;)
Oddly enough, I’m guilty of the additional weirdness you mention – but mostly when I was a kid.
I’ve done both the “someone famous is doing something right now” thing – usually when in the bathroom (I think that makes it even weirder, huh?) and having the “just randomly thinking that right this moment someone is having sex somewhere” moment. But I haven’t done those for quite a while…until now.
Just can’t get on the heaven bandwagon though…

I also watch Match Game and wonder how old the people are now, if they’re even still alive. What they’re doing. I also sometimes wonder what the attractive contestants look like naked. After pondering that, I always come back to the same conclusion: “1974? Damn. I bet she was really hairy.”
Along the same lines, I also wonder about what famous people are doing at any moment, although I don’t know who Megan Fox is. Again, however, I’ll lower the bar and say that I also find myself wondering if Sarah Palin has the landing strip, dorito chip, postage stamp, or “untamed Alaskan” down there.
