We swung by and picked up 50 more bricks for the retaining wall. It’s finally starting to take some real shape even though we still have a long way to go. This is where it stands with 100 bricks in place:

If you compare to the previous progress report, you can see how it’s coming along.
That was my Saturday.
On Sunday I got to work on the path to the shed. We have a little shed set in the woods and the path to it is old an unkempt. It’s some random concrete ‘stone’ and they tried to make it all twisty and fancy and over the years it just suck and grew over with moss and was generally useless in terms of getting to the shed to do anything.
A few weekends ago I dug up the landscaping in front of the house. Literally. I dug up every plant, tree and brick that was placed there in the name of landscaping because it was a big mishmosh and I hated how it looked. (see here – and yes, we kept the lilac)
Well, when I dug that up I ended up with a big pile of bricks that they used as edging around the garage. I think they were meant to be pavers, but the last owners used them as edging. They’re those bricks with wavy sides in an attempt to look fancy – they $1 or $2 a piece or something like that at your local big box home improvement retailer. I figures I could use them for something so I stacked them in the garage.
At some point between there and here I decided it might be a good idea to use them to redo the path to the shed. I measured the path and the bricks and did a quick count and estimated that it’d be close. I forgot about it for a while…
…then on Sunday I went nuts and dug out all of the old stone and piled it in a dark corner of the woods because I’m not sure exactly how to dispose of that sort of thing and a pile like that will probably house some critter or another and also laid the brick in the matter of an afternoon. I didn’t take a ‘before’ photo today and I probably have one somewhere, but I didn’t feel like digging it up (no pun intended) so I’ll just give you the ‘after’ photo:

I ended up with a weird meandering kinda-curvy path. Let’s consider it freeform. Still light years beyond what was there – both in functionality and in looks.
And that’s how I spent my weekend… handling bricks.

Wow! Where does one acquire the vision and ability to accomplish such things?
Looks really nice.

I appreciate the compliment, but I gotta be totally honest with you.
Like most things I do in life, I’m winging it. I have a tendency to ‘just do’ things.
Either that or I possess some arcane abilty to line bricks into rows. :)
